Meeting the Moment: Candid's Response to Federal Funding Disruptions
Candid's blog article addresses the significant challenges faced by nonprofit organizations that have lost federal funding, particularly in the aftermath of policy changes and economic shifts. The piece emphasizes the critical role of federal grants in sustaining nonprofit operations and highlights the urgency for these organizations to adapt to the evolving funding landscape.
To assist nonprofits across the country pivot, adapt, and move forward, Candid is supporting them to:
- Find foundation funders through complimentary access to Foundation Directory
For all eligible small nonprofits who participate in Candid’s Go for Gold program, Candid has upgraded access to their best-in-class prospect research tool, Foundation Directory Professional. This will allow nonprofits to identify and connect with over 240,000 U.S. grantmakers, making it easier to discover new funding resources.
Candid will also provide complimentary access to Foundation Directory Professional to organizations with under $10 million in annual revenue that have lost federal funding and have earned a 2025 Gold Seal of Transparency.
For questions or concerns, or to take advantage of the free access to the foundation directory, please email support@candid.org.
- Build expertise in alternative fundraising methods
Staff at nonprofit organizaitons that have been affected have deep expertise in finding and securing federal funding, but limited experience in cultivating individual donors, pitching to corporate partners, or navigating foundation funding. Candid’s team of experts have developed a new intensive training that is designed specifically for seasoned government grantseekers.
Participants will learn and develop strategies to diversify revenue, assess risk, build donor relationships, and craft compelling cases for support.

Innovation comes from the ground up and with the help of Candid will provide issue area-specific peer learning groups to provide space for nonprofits that have lost federal funding. These peer learning groups will assist nonprofits to tackle challenges, share real-time strategies, and build community.
For nonprofits focused on human services, education, health, or other impacted fields, these gatherings will provide opportunities to exchange insights and develop solutions with others who are navigating similar circumstances.
