Education Freedom Scholarship (EFS) Program

In the past six years, Tennessee has made great strides to strengthen education, but there’s more work to do to ensure that every child in our state has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Education Freedom Act will extend school choice to every family across rural and urban Tennessee, putting parents at the forefront of their child’s education so that students find the best school for their needs to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

“A quality education has the power to change the trajectory of a child’s life, and for the first time, families across Tennessee have the opportunity to choose the best school for their child,” said Gov. Lee. “I’m grateful that the vast majority of eligible schools intend to participate in Education Freedom Scholarships, and I have full confidence in the Department of Education’s ability to implement the program.”

The Education Freedom Scholarship (EFS) Program application will launch on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. CT/1:00 p.m. ET for all Tennessee families to submit an eligible student application.
