Board Reset Cohort with Katie Spencer
A high-performing board is one of a nonprofit's greatest assets. The Board Reset Cohort is designed to help Executive Directors and Board Chairs strengthen their partnership, re-engage board members, and reset the structures and expectations needed for strategic governance.
Through interactive learning, peer discussion, expert coaching, and practical tools, participants will develop actionable strategies they can implement immediately to move their boards from passive participation to proactive leadership.
What You'll Learn
Participants will learn how to:
- Clarify the distinct roles and shared responsibilities of the Executive Director and Board.
- Strengthen the CEO/Board Chair partnership through trust, communication, and alignment.
- Develop a strategic board work plan that keeps governance focused on mission and organizational priorities.
- Increase board engagement, ownership, and participation.
- Build accountability systems that encourage proactive leadership and follow-through.
- Create a board culture that supports effective governance and strategic leadership.
Program Includes
- Two half-day, in-person learning sessions
- Two 90-minute virtual implementation and group coaching sessions
- Practical tools, templates, and downloadable resources
- On-demand mini-trainings on key governance topics
- Opportunities for peer learning and connection with nonprofit leaders across Tennessee
Who Should Attend?
Each participating organization is encouraged to register a two-person leadership team consisting of:
- Executive Director or CEO
- Board Chair
If the Board Chair is unavailable, another board member or senior staff leader may participate.
By the end of Board Reset, participating organizations will have a stronger board/CEO partnership, a clearly defined role for the board, a strategic board work plan, and practical systems to strengthen engagement, accountability, and leadership.

Thanks to the generous support of the Assisi Foundation of Memphis, the cost per organization is only $49
